Part of artist Henry Le’s design, the “Empires’ Might” Super Chess Set is designed with two primary colors: Dark Red vs. Slightly Yellowish Green. These seemingly contrasting colors harmonize wonderfully on the chessboard. However, each side embodies distinct characteristics. The chessboard is uniquely designed compared to all previously seen chess sets, featuring uniqueness and artistic flair in color blending. It’s not just an ordinary chess set; it’s a collection of artworks within an artwork.
Each of the 32 pieces in the set possesses uniqueness and individual beauty. If each piece were to be displayed separately, they would each be exquisite works of art. The pieces are intricately designed, crafted by artisans, and finished with sophisticated and high-quality painting technology.
This Super Chess Set is truly suited for luxurious and upscale spaces such as hotel lobbies, waiting areas, large living rooms, or dedicated display spaces. It caters to different and intriguing chess games, while also serving as a highlight, adding interest and sophistication to luxurious environments.
I. Chess Pieces
1. King: (Dimensions: L…, W…, H…)
The two kings are designed with contrasting colors representing the dominant tones of each side: the Red King and the slightly Yellowish Green King. Color blending is carefully calculated for the Red King: the body of the piece combines Ebony Wood, Burnt Red color, gold glitter, and transparent epoxy, creating a sense of ethereal red hues alongside gold glitter and wood grain. The Green King is a blend of green color, gold glitter, and Ebony wood. The bases of both Red and Green kings are crafted from Malabar Ebony wood and seamlessly integrated with the body of the piece through meticulous hand-turning. The King, the weakest yet most significant piece on the chessboard, symbolizes the empire and is exquisitely designed and crafted.
2. Queen: (Dimensions: L…, W…, H…)
The Queen, the most powerful piece on the chessboard, is designed and crafted with a ratio almost equivalent to the King, slightly shorter in height. Both Red and Green sides are made with nearly equal proportions. The top of the piece is turned and hand-polished into a crown shape for the Queen. The body is a combination of colored glue and wood pieces cast and assembled to create perfect wood grain patterns combined with color. The base is made of Malabar Ebony wood and seamlessly integrated with the body of the piece.
3. Bishop: (Dimensions: L…, W…, H…)
Both Red and Green bishops are designed in the style of standard Staunton Chess pieces for tournament play, except for slightly smaller bases to fit decorative chess boards. The body of the piece is a combination of wood, gold glitter, epoxy glue, and two colors on each side: Red and Green. The top of the Bishop is also carved according to the standard Bishop’s cut.
4. Knight: (Dimensions: L…, W…, H…)
Designed and crafted with utmost sophistication, the Knight pieces on both Red and Green sides are the most beautiful highlights on the entire chessboard. The head of the piece resembles a warhorse with armor, bridles, and mane, portraying grandeur and following the standard ratio of a Knight. Transparent epoxy, color, gold glitter, and wood blend to create the shape of the horse’s head, conveying a sense of mystery, beauty, and power. The bases of the pieces are crafted from black Malabar Ebony wood with beautiful grain patterns, seamlessly integrated with the body of the piece, creating a sense of solidity and mystery.
5. Rook: (Dimensions: L…, W…, H…)
The Rook pieces symbolize the fortress or castle on the chessboard and are one of the strongest and most stable points on the chessboard. Designed in the style of standard Staunton Chess pieces for tournament play, the top of the Rook is turned and carved with evenly spaced teeth, creating beautiful color combinations with exquisite wood grain for both Red and Green sides. The base of the chess piece is also made from Malabar Ebony wood like other pieces on the chessboard, creating a sense of mystery and solidity.
6. Pawn: (Dimensions: L…, W…, H…)
Eight pawns on each Red and Green side are designed in standard Staunton Chess style for tournament play. All pieces are hand-turned with nearly identical proportions. Each pawn has its own unique characteristics due to the combination of Red or Green colors with glue, color, and gold glitter. It creates richness and diversity within a uniform and overall ratio. Pawns on the chessboard symbolize soldiers, becoming important figures in the empire when they reach the end of the board, possibly promoting to Queen or other important pieces.
II. Chessboard
1. Chessboard Surface: (Dimensions: L…, W…)
The chessboard surface is made from premium Microfiber leather material with UV printing to create chess squares. The leather is stretched over a wooden panel, and the chessboard frame is made of Oak wood painted in Ebony Wood color. The four connecting screws of the chessboard are 24k Gold-plated solid brass screws, serving as the connection between the chessboard legs and surface. This allows for easy disassembly and assembly of the chessboard while maintaining elegance, sophistication, and distinctiveness.
2. Chessboard Legs
The chessboard legs are each turned with the shape of four Knight chess pieces, symbolizing the Knights as pillars in supporting the Empires, with two colors representing the Knights’ ability to stand on either the white or black side. The four Knight chess pieces are crafted from two types of wood pressed together, representing Light (Oak Wood) and Dark (Ebony Wood). The combination of these two wood types creates varying wood grain patterns on the body of the Knight pieces, as well as creating beautiful motion for the round base and the upper part connecting to the frame and chessboard surface.
